Dr. Coy Allen is an Assistant Professor of Inflammatory Diseases in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Virginia Tech in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Allen received his MS degree in Biology from UNCG in 2000 and conducted his thesis research in Dr. Parke Rublee’s Lab developing molecular probes to detect toxic dinoflagellates in environmental samples. His thesis research earned the 2000 UNCG University Excellence Award. After graduating from UNCG, Coy completed his PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology and completed a post-doc in Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his post-doctoral training, he also completed an MBA in Bioscience Management from North Carolina State University. He joined the faculty at Virginia Tech in 2012. His research group currently studies the role of inflammation in cancer and host-pathogen interactions. The graduate school experience at UNCG provided Coy with critical skill-sets that allowed him to excel as a PhD student and has been a major factor in his continued success.
