The Plant and Pollinator Center (PPC)

At the PPC, researchers address global issues of food security, growing an agricultural economy, and environmental sustainability. Focused on both plants and pollinators to help us understand the connections in nature that underpin human health and wellness, the food we eat, and the environment in which we live, impacts of research and education at the PPC span from local to worldwide.

CURE: Innovative CURE Curriculum

As part of a National Science Foundation Study through the Council of Undergraduate Research, The Departments of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry redesigned their curriculum so scientific research is infused into classes from the time students take their first introductory course until they take advanced courses during their final year.

The STAMPS (Science, Technology and Math Preparation Scholarships) Program

Supported by the National Science Foundation, STAMPS offers scholarships of up to $4,600 per year for academically talented undergraduate students in the sciences. STAMPS also incorporates community-building measures, including peer mentors, a science colloquium series, tutoring, and field trips to research facilities.

At UNCG, U-RISE is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and seeks to increase the number of individuals from groups that are underrepresented in biomedical sciences by preparing students for high-caliber graduate training at the Ph.D. level.

The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded UNCG a 5-year, $1.15 million grant award to serve promising UNCG students who are first-generation with financial need or who are members of a group that is traditionally underrepresented in research and advanced graduate studies.
