This study combined behavioral observations, mortality analyses, and molecular assays to understand how early life stress affects honey bees later in life. The results indicated that increased mortality is the most prominent consequence of early life stress and sociality can buffer against the harmful effects of stress. The study was conducted by 3 undergraduate biology majors and Dr. Olav Rueppell over 3 years: Juan Collazo has been accepted to medical school, Daniel Smith works in the biotech industry, and Babak Yousefi is still a UNCG student.
