Diversity, equity, and inclusion

The faculty and staff of the UNCG Department of Biology recognize that systemic racism, racist behaviors, and gender biased policies permeate many different parts of society. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core values of our department, the UNCG College of Arts and Sciences, and UNCG. Here we outline steps we are taking to effect positive change to promote these values.
UNCG Biology will
- Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into departmental policies and practices, curricula, teaching, mentoring, and personnel review procedures
- Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies into our strategic plans and future hiring priorities,
- Encourage faculty, students, and staff to participate in UNCG diversity initiatives, with required training in diversity, equity, and inclusion as a prerequisite for staff and faculty participation in key committee assignments or nomination to College and University committees, and
- Increase the frequency of forums for open discussions of race and gender equity issues among faculty, staff, and students.
