Admissions requirements for the PhD in Environmental Health Science (EHS)

An applicant must show training in the fundamentals of biology, which includes the successful completion of courses equivalent to our undergraduate core curriculum for a BS degree. A master’s degree is not required for entry into this program. However, a student who has been admitted to our master’s degree program must reapply for doctoral study. Applicants should submit recommendations from academic professionals. It is strongly suggested that letters of recommendation address the applicant’s potential for graduate work as well as his/her analytical and writing abilities.

Due dates:

  • Fall Applications – (Priority deadline) January 5th, (Final deadline) January 15th

Only in rare circumstances with the approval of the Graduate Studies Director, are students permitted to apply for Spring admission. With pre-approval only, the deadlines are:

  • Spring Applications – (Priority deadline) September 30th, (Final deadline) November 15th

 

Documents to be Submitted to Graduate School for Admission to the EHS PhD program:

  1. Graduate Application
  2. Official Transcripts*. All official undergraduate and graduate transcripts are required. Approved international transcript report services can be found here.
  3. NEW – No GRE scores required.
  4. Three letters of recommendation.
  5. A current Curriculum Vitae.
  6. Personal Statement: Include highlights of educational background and prior professional activities; a discussion of research experience and interests; and career goals; reasons for choosing the Ph.D. in EHS at UNCG, and should indicate faculty members at UNCG whose research activities are of particular interest.
  7. Applicants with a first language other than English must submit scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). See language proficiency test submission requirements here.

Admissions requirements for the MS in Biology

An applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the Sciences and show training in the fundamentals of biology, including successful completion of courses equivalent to our undergraduate core curriculum.

Due dates:

  • Fall Applications – (Priority deadline) January 5th, (Final deadline) April 1st (acceptances are made on a rolling basis)
  • Spring Applications – (Priority deadline) October 1st, (Final deadline) November 15th *

*Students interested in spring admission are encouraged to contact the Graduate Program Director prior to submitting their application since enrollment in the MS program may be closed for the year and financial support in the form of an instructional assistantship may not be available.

*Unofficial transcripts may be sent in with your application to the Graduate School to keep your application moving forward but official transcripts must be submitted upon acceptance and admission to the program.
