Summer 2013 Issue of UNCG Magazine Features Piedmont Prarie and Learning Innovations in Biology
The Summer 2013 issue of the UNCG Magazine features two different stories about UNCG Biology!
The first feature concerns the establishment of the Piedmont Prairie in Peabody Park, an idea proposed to the Peabody Park Preservation Committee, by UNCG Graduate Student, Alex Congelosi. The Piedmont Prarie began with a controlled burn of an area of campus in Peabody Park. You can listen to Peabody Park Preservation Committee Chair and UNCG Biology Professor, Dr. Elizabeth Lacey, speak about the burn in an interview with local NPR station, WFDD. The burn was completed earlier this spring and the slideshow in this issue of UNCG Magazine has pictures of the now flourishing prairie (link below).
The second feature comes in the Chancellor's Column by current UNCG Chancellor, Linda P. Brady. Chancellor Brady details the development of new online classes. She specifically mentions the new online version of 'Major Concepts in Biology' class taught online by UNCG Biology Associate Professor, Dr. Malcolm Schug and UNCG Biology Lecturer, Dr. Elizabeth Tomlin and the advantages it allows them. Not only is the class more accessible they've found that they can cover more material and grades are generally better in the online environment.
