Dr. Elizabeth Lacey Featured on Local NPR Station, WFDD
Dr. Elizabeth Lacey, UNCG Biology Professor, was recently interviewed by local NPR station, WFDD. Dr. Lacey is heading a project here on the campus of UNCG to re-establish a piece of land that was once a 'Piedmont Prairie.' The project will begin with a controlled burn. Dr. Lacey adds that "the burning process itself helps to release nutrients from the shoots, the above ground vegetation which is sitting on top of the soil. Also some species require a burn in order for the seeds to germinate." The burn will take place once once every year and the hope is that the prairie will be full established by year three.
