Stan Faeth to speak in Harriet Elliot Lecture Series Panel Discussion
The UNCG Geography Department is hosting a panel discussion on the following topic — "Greening Greensboro: How the Sustainable Cities Movement Can Make Our City and Region More Livable." — on Tuesday, March 20th beginning at 3:30 PM in the Weatherspoon Auditorium of the Weatherspoon Art Museum on the UNCG campus. The panel will strive to answer the question: How do we move towards a "greener" future in Greensboro and beyond? by seeking the perspectives of experts from the fields of sustainability science, design, and policy.
UNCG Biology Department Chair, Dr. Stan Faeth, is one of the panelists along with the current Mayor of Greensboro, Robbie Perkins, Professor of Architecture at NC State University, Dr. Simon Atkinson, and registered architect specializing in inner city revitalization, housing, and urban design, Robin Abrams. The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Corey Johnson, Assistant Professor of Geography at UNCG. Dr. Faeth is specially suited to answer this question and address these topics because his research focuses on terrestrial and urban ecology. His research group studies how urbanization influences arthropod diversity and how trophic structure of plant-herbivore-natural enemy communities changes in human-dominated environments. They use observational and experimental methods to determine the underlying causes for changing in biological populations and communities in an urbanizing world.
