My research at UNCG is investigating the environmental toxicant-induced cardiovascular inflammation and neuronal injury with a special interest on determining the underlying signaling mechanisms. In line with this research, my lab is also actively studying the pharmacological agents/novel bioactive compounds that target and reduce toxin-mediated pathogenesis. My approaches include cell- and molecular biology techniques, and different animal models. In a NIH funded project, we are investigating the molecular mechanisms involved in the protective action of flavonoid genistein against proinflammatory cytokine TNF-alpha-induced vascular dysfunction. Based on our hypothesis driven research, we attempt to investigate if genistein acts through cAMP/PKA/ NFκB pathway.
